Teach good eating choices with the front of this tearpad showing the USDA graphic of MyPlate. Key phrases for each food group surround the plate with additional information for good nutrition choices. The back of the TearPad™ has information from the 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines about how many calories each of us should limit our intake to each day. Then the amount from each food group is broken down by the number of calories a day. For example: a sedentary 15-year-old girl should limit her daily calories to 1,800. An 1,800 calorie diet would include 6 oz. of grains, 2-1/2 cups of vegetables, 1-1/2 cups of fruit, 3 cups of dairy and 5 oz. of protein. The next breakout shows the subgroups of vegetables that should be consumed for that calorie intake each week. The last chart shows how many calories are burned with different types of activity.
